Walking along the Cornish Coast Path we begin to slow down, our eyes adjust and bumble bees and butterflies begin to come into focus. In an 8 mile walk from St Keverne to Coverack to Porthallow and back to St Keverne we saw 8 different types of butterflies. 2 Orange Tips, 1 Pearl Border Fritillary, 1 Small Copper, 3 Speckled Wood, 1 Peacock, 2 Green Hairstreak, 3 large White and 1 Red Admiral.Walking through a mixed landscape, coast, woodland and field we stopped for lunch at Fat Apples Cafe Porthallow. Such great food we had a mix of salads and salmon cakes washed down by Korev lager and finished with the best chocolate brownie.

We are no great experts when it comes to butterflies but we now carry a FSC Guide to Butterflies of Britain and its making walking so much fun. There’s just so much more to see when we take the time to slow down. There are a number of Guided Butterfly and Moth field trips over the summer months run by Cornwall Butterfly and Moth Society and we are going to try and get to as many as possible.

There are also a number of great walking companies in Cornwall including Explore in Cornwall and Walk it Cornwall who will take you out on guided walks.
